Lolu was found on January 29th, 2008 at the construction site of
the new Omololu Institute in Anguilla, BWI.
He weighed just a few pounds and was covered with fleas and ticks to
the point of near death. He had no water and virtually no food since
he "lived" under a storage container.
The construction workers had been feeding him lunch scraps and named him "Lolu" since he was found under the Omo
lolu sign that oddly enough I had designed for the School Ground Breaking.
Lolu's
Dog/God-Father Ralph and I saw the little pup while visiting the
construction site and despite better judgment, we could not walk away
from that little suffering animal that was so scared he bit Ralph with
his tiny vampire puppy teeth.
Two sets of sturdy construction gloves, and an hour later, he was safely in a box and on his way to his new home - our house.
Even
though the vet could not administer any meds the next day due to his
low blood count, Lolu made a fast recovery and turned into a feisty,
playing puppy in just a few days.

If shoes, socks or kids toys
were missing around the house, we always knew where to look since his
favorite hiding spot was behind the couch.
He was comfortable with his masculinity despite his feminine name and he also had a knack for not giving up on trying to "play" with the cats and the chickens and goats in our yard.
On March 22nd, chasing a chicken across our street was the last thing Lolu did.
